Marcin Wierzbicki

Marcin Wierzbicki was born in 1969 in Lublin (Poland). He studied com¬po¬si¬tion with Prof. Marian Borkowski at the Chopin Academy of Music in Warsaw (1989-1994; Master of Arts in 1994). He took part in many courses for young composers (a.o. in Kazimierz Dolny, Darmstadt, Krakow, Warsaw, Helsinki, IRCAM/Paris) and has been a delegate for International Computer Music Conference (twice – 2000, Berlin and 2002, Gothen¬burg). Since 1994 he has been teaching electroacoustic composition at AMFC Computer Music Stu¬dio. Currently Wierzbicki has completed his postgraduate studies and acquires PhD in music. His com¬po¬si¬tions were performed in many festivals, among others, at the Laboratory of Contemporary Music in Białystok, Silesian Days of Con¬tempo¬rary Music in Katowice, Summer Courses of New Music in Darmstadt, W. Lutosławski Forum in Warsaw, International Festival of Contemporary Music Warsaw Autumn, Elektronische Nacht in Stuttgart and Syn¬thèse 2001, 2002 and 2003 Festival in Bourges as well as numerous concerts in the country and abroad (among others in Germany, France, South Korea, USA, Canada). December, 2001 – the collective project GPS Trans 3. Sound Map of Krakow (where M. Wierzbicki was a Max/MSP programmer and project coordinator) took part in International Internet Art Festival “Cathedral” directed by William Duckworth. At the present he is co-organizer of the 4th edition of GPS-Trans4, a completely new project, which combines techniques of video- and audio-art with wide possibilities of wireless and internet transmission. Music of M. Wierzbicki was commissioned by the Experimental Studio of Polish Radio (Interferences retro¬ac¬tives, 2002) and by Ensemble New Flore from Strasbourg (Triple Sonata, 2003) The mu¬sic of M. Wierzbicki was also presented on the Polish Radio and TV, Radio France Inter¬national, Bayrische Rundfunk (BR4 Classic), De Concertzender Radio and CJSR Canadian Broadcast (Edmonton). Some of his pieces have been recorded on Warsaw Autumn Sound Chronicle and CD’s issued by Acte Préalable and Raabe Edition and some of his scores was published by Travers Edition, Chopin Academy of Music Edition and Raabe Edition. M. Wierz¬bicki is also composer of music for numerous documentaries which were done since 1999 for Polish TV. Marcin Wierzbicki is the winner of 2nd Prize in Composers’ Competition “Music for Gardens” (Krakow, 2001) for Seven Spring Landscapes, winner of 2nd Prize in “T. Baird Composers’ Competition” (Warsaw, 2001 – edition for electroacoustic piece) for Synapsis, and also winner of 3rd Prize in “A. Panufnik Young Composers’ Competition” (Krakow, 2002) for Three geometric tales.
