Polish Society for Electroacoustic Music (PSeME)

Polish section of the International Confederation of Electroacoustic Music (ICEM/CIME) in Bourges.

The main goal of the Polish Society for Electroacoustic Music (PSeME) is a promotion of Polish electroacoustic art (electronic music, video art, sound installation, audiovisual and interactive art) abroad, inside the network of festivals, concert series and all other electroacoustic art projects coordinated by the International Confederation of Electroacoustic Music (CIME/ICEM) in Bourges (supported by UNESCO). Polish Society of Electroacoustic Music organizes concerts with electronic music of the second half of the XX century and the most modern and advanced forms of electronic art.

The Polish Society for Electroacoustic Music was initiated by Jozef Patkowski, Ryszard Szeremeta, Elzbieta Sikora, Krzysztof Szlifirski and Marek Choloniewski. The Polish Society for Electroacoustic Music (PSeME) was established on May 7, 2005 at the Academy of Music in Krakow. The organization was founded by 16 significant authorities, initiators and directors of the main centres for electroacoustic music in Poland: Experimental Studio of the Polish Radio, academic studios from Krakow, Warsaw, Wroclaw, Lodz, Poznan, Gdansk and Katowice: Andrzej Bauer, Marek Choloniewski, Piotr Kleczkowski, Krzysztof Knittel, Wlodzimierz Kotonski, Stanislaw Krupowicz, Jaroslaw Mamczarski, Jozef Patkowski, Mariusz Pedzialek, Boguslaw Schaeffer, Elzbieta Sikora, Krzysztof Szlifirski, Maciej Szybist, Marcin Wierzbicki, Lidia Zielinska, Marek Zwyrzykowski. The first General Assembly of PSeME on May 8, 2005 chose the Main Board: Marek Choloniewski - President, Elzbieta Sikora - Wicepresident, Lidia Zielinska - Secretary, Marcin Wierzbicki - Treasurer, as well as the Board of Control: Krzysztof Szlifirski - President, Stanislaw Krupowicz - Vicepresident, Marek Zwyrzykowski - Secretary.


The program of the Concert Introduction on May 7, 2005 at the Bunkier Sztuki City Gallery in Krakow included compositions of the founders of the society: M.Choloniewski, K.Knittel, W.Kotonski, S.Krupowicz, E.Sikora, B.Schaeffer, M.Wierzbicki, L.Zielinska and F.Barriere - founder of the Institut for Electroacoustic Music (imeb) in Bourges, and President of CIME. General Assembly of CIME in Lisbon on September 22, 2005 confirmed PSeME as a Polish section and full member of the International Confederation for Electroacoustic Music (CIME/ICEM).


On May 7, 2006 Christophe Desjardins with the soloists from Muzyka Centrum Orchestra played the concert on the 2nd anniversary of Polish Society for Electroacoustic Music (part of Bridges project). On September 29, November 11 and December 2 the CIME concerts were organized in Krakow. On December 15-17, 2006 the Polish-American Festival for Electroacoustic Music (PAFME) was organized by supervision of Ben Boretz and Dorota Czerner. The music by Ben Boretz, Elzbieta Sikora, Andrzej Dobrowolski, Pawel Mykietyn and others were performed by Jan Cielecki, Piotr Grodecki, Slawomir Zubrzycki and Improvising Artists.


In 2007 PSeME organized 50th Anniversary of the Polish Electroacoustic Music in form of concerts in Krakow (May 7, October 27), Bourges (Synthese Festival: June 2-3) and Beijing (Musicacoustica: October 22-24). On November 24-25 the General Assembly of CIME/ICEM were organized at the Krakow Academy of Music, as well as 2 CIME concerts included to the program of Audio Art Festival in Krakow. Krzysztof Wolek received the 1st Prize at the International Competition for Electroacoustic Music in Bourges in 2007 for his piece Mobile Variations. Another piece of him Changing Lanes and Opalescences by Katarzyna Glowicka received awards on the same competition.


Currently PSeME assiociates 122 Members.

Polish electroacoustic music is based on the activity of many composers and electroacoustic music centres:

5. Studio for Computer Music at the Academy of Music in Poznan (director: Lidia Zielinska)

6. Computer Studio for Electronic Music at the Academy of Music in Lodz (director: Krzysztof Knittel)

7. Studio for Computer Music at the Academy of Music in Katowice (director: Jaroslaw Mamczarski)

8. Studio for Computer Music at the Academy of Music in Gdansk (director: Krzysztof Olczak)

9. Studio for Computer Music at the Academy of Music in Bydgoszcz (coordinator: Dobromila Jaskot)

10. Studio for Computer Music at the Silesian University in Cieszyn (director: Krzysztof Gawlas)


Polish electroacoustic music is presented on many festivals in Poland and abroad. Most of the program including electroacoustic music is presented on concerts of the centres and festivals:

Musica Electronica Nova in Wroclaw, Warsaw Autumn in Warsaw, Audio Art Festival in Krakow, Musica Moderna in Lodz, Poznan Spring Music in Poznan and many others.
